Ladies of Eagle, how much have we missed the serenity of our beautiful Greenbelt? Our cherished oasis, the North Channel Greenbelt, has been inaccessible for over a year. The wait is finally over! Let’s reacquaint ourselves with the rejuvenated landscapes that breathe life into our Eagle community.
The Eagle Greenbelt: A Facelift after a Yearlong Closure
The Greenbelt, a scenic river path dotted with autumn-colored trees, is our town’s crown jewel. Nestled behind Lamb Weston at 599 S. Rivershore Lane, it offers the perfect setting for running, biking, or enjoying a tranquil walk. But, for over a year, we’ve been patiently waiting on the sidelines due to concerns about bank erosion coupled with construction on the Eagle Road pedestrian and bike bridge.
Our wait has not been in vain, however. Eagle City officials have used this time to give our beloved Greenbelt not just a facelift but a total transformation!
The Awakening—North Channel Greenbelt Opens
Starting in October, the refreshed Greenbelt has unofficially opened its pathways to the public. With the rejuvenated path now official, it invites you to tread on the newly paved concrete pathways, past the river lined with protective rocks, and bask in the splendid sights and sounds of autumn.
This transformation has cost the city $243,000, paid out to a contractor, Evolution Landscape, but the projection was a worthwhile investment for our community.
Collaboration and Conservation: The New Path Forward
Ensuring the Greenbelt’s longevity and stability required intervention at several points where bank erosion was undermining the trail. The city efficiently handled this through a cooperative plan with BB One LLC, which owns the land on which the Greenbelt sits.
The fruits of this collaboration are clear in the newly paved pathways and protective rocks lining the river. The city has also planted Willow starters at the river’s edge, ensuring the ground remains firm and helping slow down future erosion.
According to Mayor Jason Pierce, “The city saved about $400,000 by collaborating on this project.”
Connectivity and Community: Forging Ahead
The reopening of the Eagle Greenbelt reaffirms our city’s commitment to fostering a vibrant community with solid infrastructure. Keeping Eagle’s outdoor spirit alive also involves future maintenance plans, like eventually replacing the rest of the trail with concrete. Although not an immediate priority, it attests to the city’s investment in our lifestyles, encouraging us to walk more, cycle more, and continue enjoying our great outdoors.
As Mayor Pierce rightly points out, pathways like these are “what makes Eagle great.” The city’s projects like the Greenbelt Path update and the pedestrian bike bridge do not just champion connectivity but nurture a culture of health, fitness, and outdoor enjoyment in our community.
Your City, Your Greenbelt: Ask and You Shall Receive
Nichoel Baird Spencer, the Director of Long-Range Planning and Projects, encourages us Eagle denizens to participate and express our preferences for future projects. The city welcomes public submissions for future capital programs, ensuring our voices are part of the city’s growth and evolution. Maybe you would love more parks, improved pedestrian facilities, or new cycling trails—this is your opportunity to speak up!
A New Chapter for the Eagle Greenbelt: Let’s Be Part of It
The reopening of Eagle Greenbelt entwines our lives with a piece of our city’s evolving history, ultimately enhancing our quality of life. As emerging stewards of these beautiful spaces, let’s pledge to treat them responsibly, maintaining their beauty for future generations.
